"There is Vostok-3”…These words were the first ones heard over the radio
on the 11th of August, 1962.
11.30. Moscow
time. The spaceship "Vostok-3”
with our countryman Andrian Nikolayev on board was launched into space. He was
in space for 93 hours, orbited the Earth 64 times and covered the distance of 2,600,000 kilometres.
Andrian Nikolayev was born in 1929 in the village of Shorshely
in Marposad district which is situated in the ChuvashRepublic
into a family of a peasant. There were 4 children in the family.
Andrian lived a difficult life because his father died in the year of
his birth.
In
the family the children had to work much to help their mother. From his early
childhood Andrian liked the nature, especially flowers and trees. Together with
his brother he entered a forest technical school and worked as a forest
technical but only for a year.
Time passed. In 1955 Andrian Nikolayev
entered a flying school and soon he became a military pilot.
